Mission Statement of the Viet Nam Vets |
![]() |
VNV M/C ALASKA is comprised of Brothers who have served BEFORE-DURING-OR- AFTER the Viet Nam War. All Brothers are equal here, we make only one visible distinction. Brothers who served BEFORE OR AFTER the Viet Nam War are our LEGACY and wear a "Legacy" sash on the front of their "cut". All Brothers wear a Viet Nam Vets top rocker (which represents who we are), a Viet Nam Vets Center target showing the land masses of Viet Nam, Laos, and Cambodia, and a bottom rocker of "ALASKA U.S.A." (which represents where we are from).
That's it....Same Same. One Club, One Patch, One Brotherhood. The Viet Nam Vets Motorcycle Club and its Legacy will live on forever in Alaska.
We consider ourselves very visible reminders of the Viet Nam War, it's veterans and how this country treated it's returning warriors. It's the in-your-face-attitude of the Viet Nam Vets Motorcycle Club that forces this country to admit its past and it's the dogged efforts of the VNV M/C that demands full accounting of our POWs and MIAs by the U.S.G. It's through the continuing efforts of the VNV M/C that this country has re-learned how to honor and respect it's fighting soldiers and veterans. "Spit on the War, Not the Warrior".
We serve the veterans community of Alaska in many ways and have become highly respected for our efforts. On November 11, 2002 , during a Veterans Day dinner at our Clubhouse, VNV M/C Alaska was presented the 2002 Governor's Veterans' Advocacy Award by Major General Phillip Oates. We sponsor a Memorial Day Run to the Byers Lake Veterans Memorial which is the largest organized motorcycle run in the state. Bikers though aren't the only ones to attend our "Fallen Warrior Ceremony" at the Memorial Site. We draw folks from all sectors of the veterans AND civilian communities, including representatives from the State Governors Office and the Office of the Adjutant General of the Alaska National Guard. Our "Rolling Thunder" procession includes 150 or more bikes lined up two by two with VNV Colors flying proudly ahead of the pack as an Alaska Air Natural Guard UH-60 Black Hawk does a low level fly-by down the length of the column.
We perform our Fallen War Ceremony at several veteran related holidays including; Memorial Day, POW/MIA Day and Veterans Day. We have performed the ceremony at schools, armories, and Sea-side docks in front of civilians young and old, Veterans, former POW's, Generals and state dignitaries..
Over the years, we have donated thousands of dollars and hundreds of man-hours in support of Alaskan Veterans. We purchased and installed two large bronze plaques at the base of the Veterans Memorial Flag Pole on the Anchorage park strip. These two plaques contained the names of the 57 Alaskans who did not return from the Viet Nam War. We contributed funds to the development of the WWII Memorial Statue on the park strip. By the way, the initial photos for statue model were those of a VNV M/C Brother, and were taken in our Clubhouse. We Helped erect two of the flag poles at Byers Lake Veterans Memorial in order to hoist the POW/MIA, & the Alaska Flags. One of our more recent activities is annually sponsoring lodging room for needy veterans in a local domiciliary. We sustain our efforts by holding various fund-raisers throughout the year and having a motorcycle raffle just about every other year.
